Turn Public Speaking Nervousness into Positive Energy

What is that sensation caused by public speaking nervousness?. That sinking feeling. A knot in your stomach. Butterflies.It's probably the similar feeling you would get if a herd of elephants was charging towards you.
Do you get sweaty palms? A dry throat? Maybe you try to speak but nothing comes out! Speech Anxiety, panic attacks, stage fright; It is known by many different names. And it affects us all at some point in our lives. (Some more than others.) Feeling nervous before your speech can be very beneficial. In fact, if I don’t feel somewhat anxious I begin to get nervous before I speak. I find that nerves help bring my energy level up. But you still need to control the amount of anxiety in public speaking. Too much can be detrimental to the message you wish to convey. Here are some things to remember before going on stage:
Before Presenting Your Speech - Realize that the audience wants you to succeed.
- Feeling nervous before your speech shows that you care about doing well. Realize that it is natural and healthy.
- Do a few exercises to help you loosen up.
- Speak about what you know. You will be more confident talking on subjects that you are knowledgeable about.
- Prepare. Research, write and practice your speech or presentation well in advance. The better you know your content, the more relaxed you will be.
- Focus on the message you wish to convey. Always have that in the back of your mind while preparing.
- Take your nervous energy and tell yourself that this is a good thing. This energy will help you be more active and lively. If you are bored your audience will be too.
- Speak whenever you get a chance. The more experience you have the more comfortable you will become on stage.
- Always remember that public speaking nervousness is not just happening to you. Think of famous speakers that you know and picture them as being nervous the first time they spoke. You are not alone.
Generally, it is good if you feel some nervousness before public speaking. It will help you be more alert and inject enthusiasm into your presentation.
